Juvederm injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. At Louisiana Women’s Aesthetics, we provide a numbing agent prior to treatment to minimize discomfort.
After injection, patients may experience some mild swelling (sometimes moderate) and there is always the risk of bruising. We will offer you an ice pack following your treatment. We recommend at least two days of downtime after injection. This would involve avoiding strenuous activity, such as exercise and activities that confine the head and body like massages, as these can induce swelling. Note that after injection, the filler may be felt under the skin and in the week following. This is part of the process as the filler “settles.” Most filler has settled at two weeks, as well as the resolution of any outward signs such as swelling or bruising. Any bruising can be concealed with makeup the day following treatment.
The longevity of filler depends on the specific type used. Voluma™ XC, used for the cheeks, can last up to two years. Vollure™ XC for lines around the mouth and in the lips can last up to 18 months. Volbella™ XC and Ultra PLUS XC, used for lips and around the mouth, can last up to 12 months.
